Scarf Swap, Food & Friends!

Halloween is a really fun season and a great time to flex your funny bones. Decorating and creating new recipes makes me long for it all year.

This year, I decided to kick off the season with friends, creative food, and a Scarf Swap! Instead of spending a ton of time and money, I decided to make everything from the invitations to the food a quick and easy to-do. With the invites, I designed them, emailed it to my local print shop, and stuck them in the mail, all in one day.

Since I didn’t want to spend a ton of time in the kitchen, I came up with a few things that were make ahead and then some I could pop in and out of the oven before my guest arrived for all of the fun. I didn’t want to miss a thing by being bound to the kitchen. My friend, Leathe was so sweet to provide the yummy Taco Soup for the party!

I found several options by Tyson Foods to spook up my table by taking a trip down our local Wal-Mart freezer isle.

After I grabbed my ingredients, I zipped over to the decorations and filled a bucket with cute things to dress up my table with. Wal-Mart is a one stop shop for all of my inexpensive entertaining and for a busy mom, this is such a relief.

What better way to disguise a cheese ball than turn it into a pumpkin?

Pumpkin Cheese Ball

Save your regular Cheese Balls for Thanksgiving, use this one to shine up your Halloween party!
Course Appetizer
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 30 minutes
Servings 8 people


  • 2 8 oz. Cream Cheese Softened
  • 1 package Dry Ranch Mix
  • 1/2 cup Sharp Cheddar Cheese shredded
  • 3/4 cup Cheddar Crackers finely chopped
  • 1/2 Bell Pepper chopped Save the stem for the topper
  • 5 Tyson Grilled Chicken Nuggets cook according to package and finely chop


  1. Add all except for the chopped crackers in a bowl and mix well. Form into a pumpkin shape and place in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 2 hours. Roll the cheese ball in chopped crackers. Using yard press into the cheese ball starting at the top, do this 4 times. Top with bell pepper stem and serve with crackers or veggies.

To go with our Halloween theme, I also created these Mummified Chicken & Waffles! These were so fun to make and really a crowd pleaser, they are sure to be the talk of your Halloween table.

Mummified Chicken & Waffles

These mummified chicken & waffles are not only delicious but they really easy to create!
Course Main Course
Servings 8 people


  • 8 Tyson Crispy Chicken Strips
  • 1 box Waffles
  • 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 2 slices Provolone Cheese
  • 16 Chocolate Morsels


  1. Cook Tyson Crispy Chicken Strips according to package. Toast or Broil waffles until they are slightly done. Wrap Chicken in and secure with a toothpick. Place strips of cheese at the top of chicken and top with 2 morsels for the eyes.

One of the great things about the holidays is the time we spend connecting with our friends and family. This was a party that was easy to pull together and I can’t wait until we do it again. My community and the people in it are a blessing. The women look out for one another and we should take a break from the daily things and be reminded that there are others dealing with similar situations.

We really can lift each other up or be there for someone to lean on in their greatest time of need, we all need someone at some point.
Don’t wait until things are perfect to plan a hootenanny with your people. They don’t care about the size of your home, the dirty sock stuck in the couch cushion, or the broken door knob in your bathroom. They care about you, spending time with you, and laughing with you. So send out some text, grab some groceries, and swap scarfs with your girlfriends, you won’t regret it. I promise!

  1. Tyson chicken tenders are a lifesaver! I bought a bag of their parmesan herb chicken tenders, and I love to cook one, chop it up, and put it on a salad. Though, I have to say, it isn’t half as cute as those mummy waffles!
